About Jennifer H. McDonald

I was raised in Mobile, Alabama, amongst the peace and quiet of five younger brothers, and varying combinations of dogs, cats, fish, birds, gerbils, mice, lizards, scorpions, turtles, spiders, snakes, frogs, snails, and puppy dog tails. I attended Theodore High School and The University of South Alabama, where I received my undergraduate degree in English. I obtained my law degree in 2004 from The University of Alabama School of Law in Tuscaloosa, where I participated in the Civil Rights Law Students Association and served as a Senior Editor for the Law and Psychology Review. I also participated in the Children's Rights Legal Clinic, where I represented children in Special Education programs, and I worked for the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program in Tuscaloosa.
I am a licensed attorney and a member of the Alabama State Bar, and I practice family law in Mobile, concentrating in divorce mediation and uncontested divorce. I have completed professional divorce mediation training and have extensive training in understanding the emotional, psychological, and financial consequences of divorce, as well as its effect on children.

I grew up in a generation where almost half of my peers saw their parents divorce. Many cite their parents' bitter divorce as a significant traumatic event in their childhood, and some endured the stress of serious post-divorce conflict between their parents for years. It doesn't have to be this way!
The level of conflict between divorcing parents is one of the key factors in their children's adjustment. When divorce is inevitable, parents should make every reasonable effort to manage conflict in a healthy manner during the divorce. The litigation process itself often amplifies a sense of combativeness between the parties. Not only is divorce litigation extremely expensive, but it is often a traumatic experience for the entire family.
I chose this area of practice because I believe that there should be an alternative to the costly and stressful litigation process, and that divorcing couples should be encouraged to work together when making important decisions regarding their family's
future. Divorce is never easy or painless, but there does not have to be a "winner" and a "loser."
I live in Mobile with my husband, two children, and a houseful of pets. When I'm not "lawyering" or spending time with my family, I can usually be found indulging my love for creative writing. I also enjoy listening to music, martial arts, and enjoying the outdoors gardening, camping, hiking, and kayaking/canoeing. And most importantly, Roll Tide!
I welcome you to call or email with any questions about how I can help you get started in resolving your marital issues as quickly and privately as possible and, ideally, without litigation or court appearances.
